Postclassic Period

Postclassic period, cultural lapse of time from roughly 900 to 1521 A.D., the year of the Spanish conquest brought this period to an end. The most important cultures and archaeological sites of this time are: Gulf Coast: Totonac Culture. Veracruz and Puebla (Tajín and Cempoala); Western Mexico: the Tarascan Culture in Michoacán stands out. (Dzin Dzun Dzan/Tzin Tzun Tzan??, Ihuatzio, Patzcuaro and Tzizipandácuri); Oaxaca: Mixtec culture (Mitla), Maya Zone : Maya culture with highland influence (Chichén Itzá); Central Highlands: Toltec Culture (Hidalgo) in the Early Postclassic (Tula, Cholula, Tenayuca) and Aztec Culture in the Federal District (Mexico City) in the Late Postclassic (Malinalco, Tlatelolco and Tenochtitlan).
