Matrícula de Tributos
Page from the Matrícula de Tributos. A document of Mexica origin, it is in all probability pre-Hispanic. It is now housed in the Library of the Museo Nacional de Antropología (National Anthropology Museum) in Mexico City, under the number 3552. This type of document was generally made on amate (bark) paper, painted with mineral and/or vegetal colors, with different resins used as an agglutinate, such as the sticky juice of the prickly pear cactus, on a prepared base made of lime and water. The manuscript consists of 32 pages, some of which are incomplete, which display the list of different towns and the tribute they had to pay.
